The lane beside the house is known locally as ‘Cromwell’s Pass’, this dates back to Cromwellian times and nearby Lough Oughter Castle where Oliver Cromwell is reputed to have marched his armies on route to attack the Castle in 1653 and finally took control of it from the rebels of the day.
